Dude this place is pretty great for Estes ... I live here... We are in Estes so Mexican isn't amazing. The ceviche is great as are the chips. The service and atmosphere are pretty rad... My husband was really disappointed with his bland burrito.

3 stars because the food is great but service is extremely slow. Colorado burrito is huge!!! Enchiladas suizas with green sauce was petty darn good. Cute outside seating but the sun was too strong for me.

I love this new restaurant! I really like the perk of warm bean dip served along with the chips and salsa - all are delicious. I have only been at night so have not been able to enjoy the views that everyone else is raving about. The inside decor, however, is fresh and colorful. We will continue to visit and recommend this place to friends and visitors!

After living in an area with awesome Tex-Mex for many years I was going through withdrawals until La Hacienda arrived. The menu is expansive. A wide range of items from cheap to expensive. Great lunch specials. Good Margaritas! Nice seating inside. patio needs some work but has a great view.

Our family ate here yesterday and were very pleased. The food and the service was great.

This was a very fun restaurant with good atmosphere. They serve warm chips with beans and salsa complementary when you arrive. The food was delicious. Margaritas had good taste but for the price they hardly had any alcohol in them. Fun place. Good views.

Amazing views from the rooftop deck! Inside, the restaurant decor and music made us feel like we were in the tropics while surrounded by Rocky Mountain beauty. The chips and refried bean dip were very good. I had red snapper veracruzana and my husband had the nopalitos. The food was fine, and the portions were huge. Our service was great -- attentive waitstaff, prompt service. I don't know why other reviewers got poor service, unless they were there at a busier time. We were very satisfied with the service and the food; the atmosphere was festive; and the views were wonderful! I don't generally like Mexican food and the food wasn't great (it was fine), but we would definitely come here again.

3 stars because the food was awesome! But our poor guy of a host was running around with his head off.. To not have at least 2 hosts on a weekend? Come on we waited for 30 minutes. Not to mention our waiter was one of two people on the patio. I worked in restaurants for a long time and the one thing that will break this place is giving servers more than they can handle. Not to mention when we were at the host stand waiting servers were pushing through us with good with not even an excuse me. Anyways good food but very overwhelming atmosphere out waiter was extremely nice but I was sick of chasing him down.

Food was mediocre at best. Service was OK...refilled drinks in a timely manner, did not refill chips and salsa quickly. View on the patio is great.

Ate here in the off season in Estes. Most places were not open. Service was fantastic. Drinks were, too, and the service was super. The server was attentive, timely, warm and had great pacing. Wonderful sounds of mariachi all night. Reminded my husband and I of our honeymoon in Mexico. We'll be back when we are in Estes Park again.

I have slightly mixed feelings about this place. The Pros...it's a new restaurant in a great location - it's easy to get to and has free parking nearby. The restaurant has a big menu, so you're sure to find something you're craving. And the restaurant has amazing views. If the sun isn't too strong, they have ample seating on their patio, which is on the 3rd floor of the building. Now the Cons...the service was super slow. This usually isn't a deal breaker for me, unless I am in a hurry. Hopefully after they are open for a little while longer, these problems will be worked out. Now the food - it really doesn't belong in the Pro or Con category. It was just okay. I had the Enchilada Trio - a combination of pork with green sauce, beef with red sauce, and chicken with mole. The beef/red sauce was my favorite, but the chicken was a little tough, and the mole was not that exciting. The pork/green sauce was mediocre, but nothing to write home about. All in all, I'd prefer to try other local Mexican restaurants before returning.

This the 3rd time we've tried this place and started out simple. Prices were good for a tourist town but the food was much better as was the service. There are several like places in town but for lunch and dinner this is the best. My only complaint is that parking is bad and unless you look up it's hard to find. From Bond Park you look up and to the northwest. It is worth the effort to find.

Every meal we had was very flavorful and delicious. The ambiance is great with great views of Longs Peak and downtown Estes. The restaurant was very clean and so were the bathrooms. I hope this location can generate enough business despite its location on the hill, which is a slight walk from the main drag.

Excellent. Outside seating with view of mountains. I had Cadillac margerita and chili reillano, delicious. My husband had heuvos con machaca, eggs and schedded beef. Pleasant, just a short walk up the hill from main drag. Lunch special until 3p. 2 entrees plus my drink was 29 w/o tip. I would come again, friendly effecient service.

Came here for lunch on a Sunday. The service was friendly but pretty slow. The patio was also closed which was a bummer because it was a beautiful day out! Other than that, the food was pretty good. The margaritas were okay...they had good flavor (I had a melon one, my sister had a strawberry one) but other than that, they seemed to be lacking tequila lol. Overall decent experience, but not the best in Estes Park.

    (3)
  • Sandy B.

The best thing was the outdoor seating. The margaritas were way too sweet, the salsa bland and the food inedible. We will not be back.

  • Chris G.

The food was decent for Estes Park. I got a fajita that was good. However, my main complaint is about something that is essential for any Mexican restaurant: The margaritas! I love margaritas these were just horrible. There was literally no alcohol in them at all!

Yikes. We stopped by this place with a group of eight after a long day of hiking. We were seated on the roof which looked pretty promising. Their menu is enormoussss which gave everyone a good laugh. Here's the highlights: Ups: they served beer and the salsa was good. Downs: the food in general was not good. I had a chicken quesadilla and the chicken was super dry. No one was sold on the food and my margarita was meh but they served it in the worlds smallest glass then leave you with the shaker. Weird. The service was terrrrrrrrrrrrrrible. I think our server had a bad attitude but also disappeared for a half hour while everyone was ready to get another round of beers. We had to go inside and find someone to ask him to come by so we could order from him. additionally, there was an issue with the queso so we grabbed a random server and told him we were missing chorizo in our queso and he responded that he didn't understand us because his English wasn't good. I thought it was pretty straightforward... Anyways- if you have a lot of time to kill and want to spend money on bad service and weird food-- give it a try. Otherwise I'd keep driving.

The good: Very nice patio, close to downtown, nice view The bad: bad service, which was surprising given there were more waiters than tables in the patio. I don't know if they are inefficient, confused, or what. It took them 10 minutes to bring anything. I had finished my meal before my wife got her fajitas. And they brought the tortillas and the plate with onions and other vegetables before the meat. By the time the meat arrived everything else is cold. Have you ever tried cold fajitas? The ugly: The food was bad. Not inedible bad, just not good at all. The rice was mild, the beans were flavorless, the tortillas were cold, my tampiqueña tasted like burnt steak, the fajitas had more spices than expected and were overcooked, my margarita was so bad I did not even finish it. My advice: look for alternatives.

Good food. Terrible service. We got seated on the patio fairly fast. Then we sat there. And sat there. And sat there. Finally the only waitress they had, came over and took our drink order. Another 10 minutes went by and still no drinks. A young guy who had just started working there, brought us our chips and salsa. (One small bowl of salsa for 3 people). We ate all the chips and the salsa and drank the glasses of water and still no waitress to take our order. We probably waited 20-25 minutes before the waitress came over and took our order. Then we waited another 30 minutes for the food to come out. When the food finally came out, it was very tasty. We didn't hear from our waitress again until after our meal was finished. She took our plates and disappeared. Finally we caught her and asked for the check. Another 10-15 minutes went by and still no check. So I suggested we just go up to the cash register and stand there until the waitress printed our checks. We got there about 2:30 and didn't get out of there until around 4:15pm. I don't think I will ever go there again. If you want good Mexican food and good service, go over to "Ed's Cantina". I've never had a problem over there!

Great view of the park, but that is the only good thing I can say. Service was slow, orders were wrong and the food was awful. As we sat waiting for our check, I watched a busboy flick leftovers off the next table....and then seat the next group there. Never wiped it down. I asked for sweetener for the iced tea, but was told they only had sugar. After waiting 15 minutes for that, I walked into the main room and found containers of sweetener at each inside table. The pulled pork tacos were 3 lumps of pork in inedible shells. This was the first time in years I left food behind, uneaten. This experience became a high point of the day because it was so incredibly awful. Maybe we just hit it at the wrong time, but I strongly recommend you avoid.

The service was very slow. Food was ok nothing special. Nice views, can sit on roof patio.

  • L S A.

I can't even rate the food for these reasons. Signage to get in was horrible, especially going through the mostly vacant building of empty shop spaces. No seating available inside on a warm afternoon. We are led to the crowded deck to the last table with an umbrella, directly in the sun, and voila! Sorry, the umbrella doesn't work. OK, why didn't you just tell us to get lost from the get-go? Jerks....this just shouts, "We are taking this tourist customer base for granted!"

    (1)
  • Brian P.

Food is good and they have good Margaritas. We just had a bad experience with the waiter- very poor service. I try not to complain as I have worked in the service industry before; however, it took us about 20 minutes to just get water and the waiter was just generally poor.

    (2)
  • Chelsie D.

Food was Awesome and the Margaritas were the best we have ever had! BUT don't go too early. They open at 11.. We showed up ten after and they're server was not there yet. It took them a little over an hour to get there... We weren't in a big rush to go do anything that day so, we waited.

So.... Busy lunch in tourist trap town. Had some margaritas and started eating, but not for long. My son had fries and cheese quesadilla... And feathers. FEATHERS! My picture didn't turn out but there were 2 white chicken feathers as if they're slaughtering the chickens in the kitchen. AVOID this place. Talked to the manager and agreed to not charge us for the drinks. Sure, thanks! We just moved to the area and will be sure to tell everyone our experience.

  • Kristy W.

Service was mediocre. They advertise a gluten free menu, but when we asked the server said it was in his head, so to just ask. Food was not very good either. Average to below average. Great views though. Perhaps a good place for a drink and chips/salsa.

First and last time to this place!!!!! The services was absolutely horrible!!!!! Had to get up and ask for our drink order to be taken!!! They acted like we were not even there even after our order was taken!!! Sooo rude!!!! I swear not one drop of alcohol went into this drink. Basically paid $8 for a strawberry slush!!!! Horrible horrible horrible!!!!!!

Avoid this tourist trap! This restaurant is well located in Estes Park and has a nice rooftop seating area that provides a great view of the town and surrounding mountains, but that's literally all the positives that come to mind. We stopped in for lunch and the service was incredibly slow and inattentive. I'm not sure who my actual waiter was because we interacted with at least three people. The food was cold and bland - the exact opposite of what I think Mexican food should be. I ordered a tostada with chicken and what I received was a soggy tortilla smothered in refried beans that looked like vomit with a few stringy pieces of boiled chicken and some limp iceberg lettuce with even more vomit-beans on the side along with some dry, flavorless rice. We also got some nachos - the cheese wasn't even melted and the toppings were sparse. Total waste of money. Don't make the same mistake I did! Try Casa Grande instead, it's right across the intersection near Dairy Queen.

I am usually pretty generous about my reviews of restaurants, because I am not a picky eater, however I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND EATING AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT. The food was sub-par, and incredibly bland. My family ordered a couple different dishes, and they all had a bit of a spicy "kick," but no flavor. The vegetables were not cooked well, and the chicken was not marinated at all. The food, I could live with, but the worst part about this place was the service. They paid little to no attention to us, and when they did, there was an obvious undertone of resentment for any requests that we made. Overall, I would recommend that you find a better Mexican restaurant to visit here in Estes.

This place has only been open two months and had a great patio and views. We had beer and chips while filling out postcards under the sun. Our server from Columbia was super nice. The complimentary chips and salsa were tasty, and came with a surprising little dipper of refried beans.

  • Shawna S.

Margaritas not great, food was okay. Service was alright. Had a lot of food options & pretty atmosphere. Salsa was yummy, wish the chips were thinner restaurant style. The salsa made up for it.

  • Stephanie M.

TERRIBLE service. After being seated, we were given chips, salsa, bean dip and water. My water had something floating in it so I told the girl that gave them to us. She was very rude and was searching the water before she would get me a new one. Then, 15 mins later our server finally came to take our order. No one came back to our table until 35-40 minutes later when our food was finally served to us. We ordered cheese dip and never received it. We were unable to ask for it since the staff was no where to be found (we were seated in a separate room off to the side). My food was actually pretty good. A couple others at our table said it was just okay. Even though my food was good, I will not return due to the slow and extremely rude staff.

Best mexican food/experience in estes park! We ate on the large patio overlooking the park and downtown area. Food was delicious and service was fast and friendly. Will definitely be visiting la hacienda again.

Order the original margaritas, yum! (And I'm a margarita snob), the chips, salsa and bean dip were like my husband's abuelita's. They have all the traditional entrees plus a few unexpected. Sopes aren't often on the menu and theirs were delicious!

  • Beby R.

I had the tacos al horno and it was delicious. Friendly staff and good service. Giving it a 3 star as we were 4 in one table and the average vote was 3. Probably the best Mexican in town.

  • Keith G.

Absolutely horrible experience. From the service to the dried out meat in everyone's meal. What a waste of scenery. Very disappointed. I wouldn't even feed the steak to my dog, and they'll eat anything...the only thing that was decent was the Pepsi...good luck, don't say I didn't warn you.

    (1)
  • Julie J.

Awesome tacos and sopes! This place can compete with any authentic Mexican joint in Denver or Chicago (my main comparison cities). Service was great, food was even greater. Some of the best ground beef tacos I've EVER had!! First "sope" I've tried and I am a believer...kinda like a tostada crossed with a fried tamale...incredible! Beautiful views of the Stanley and Longs Peak and a patio I can't wait to frequent in the warmer months.

  • Gloria U.

The service sucked and the food was bland. What more do you need to know? I had the tropical salad which tasted watery, very flavorless. The shrimp was previously frozen or tasted like it came out of a can. The ritas didn't seem to have any alcohol. What kind of Mexican restaurant can't make good ritas??? There were more table bussers than waiters. How does that happen?

  • Juana M.

Good food, great margaritas, and exceptionally friendly people. Love it. I'm visiting from LA, California. This is the place to go for Mexican food, I had the chile Colorado and it was amazing.

  • Joan M.

We had very good meals. Food arrived piping hot and tasted like each plate was individually prepared with fresh ingredients. Definitely the best Mexican restaurant in Estes Park (and I live here). Wait staff was attentive and kept our drinks filled. The building has been attractively remodeled since last tenet and the views from the deck are beautiful. It does seem to take a longer than normal time to get food to the table, but the wait was worth it.

It takes some serious work to mess up Mexican food. After a long and tiresome day of running in the Rocky Mountain Half Marathon, my cousin stated, "I could eat 10 plates of tacos!" I read a few reviews, but ultimately decided it couldn't be too awful. First off, we were seated and not given water, chips or anything for 10 minutes. We finally destroyed some chips, and had 3 different people at infrequent intervals ask us questions. We ordered the Vallarta margs (which were VERY good), but different people kept bringing the items. By now we figured out we didn't have a server, and the bus lady took our order (this was interspersed with us flagging down someone, ANYONE for any type of service). About 25 minutes passed and some OTHER person asked us if we ordered. Um, yeah. We did. This wasn't for lack of us asking. I ordered the Fajitas, and I regret not taking a picture of my cold, disgusting and oily food. My beans were so cold and set up they were hard. I was brought a new plate and by this time we wanted to destroy some food. It was inedible. I have never complained to the management and disputed a bill, but this was too much. They comped our WHOLE meal (which we didn't ask for--it was surprising), we said we'd gladly pay for margs and we still left too large of a tip. The waiter proceeds to shift blame to the kitchen, a big group AND they've "been closed for four days." So, which was it? People were leaving tables left and right, so I know for a fact it wasn't just our experience. Do NOT go here!!!!!

  • Kennie P.

It's a little hard to find after you park. Talking with owner we found out that the restaurant is not allowed to put up more signs to guide you up the stairs.? But trust me it's worth it! Just follow the sound of the music and when you get there order the bartender special! The best !!

Our meal was tasty and we had really friendly service. My family of 6 very much enjoyed it. We come to Estes every year and we will come back here for sure.

The entrance is difficult to find if you are unfamiliar with the area. Once we found it, an employee ran out in front of us to the chalk board and wrote "CLOSED" so that we could not enter. It was only 7pm, on a Saturday evening. My family and a family that was waiting behind us was very upset when they told us the kitchen closes at 7pm.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
